Chet has been in and around aquatics most of his life. He began swimming at the age of six and progressed up through the YMCA’s competitive swimming program. Between workouts and swim lessons, he also assisted the swim instructors who were teaching swim lessons to children and adults. He later completed throughout high school and received honors for his abilities in swimming and water polo.
Chet has been a lifeguard for over twenty years. He was initially certified by the American Red Cross as a WSI and LGI and taught CPR and First Aid to other aquatic safety professionals. He also became certified as an Ellis and Associates Lifeguard in the early eighties and would later be certified as an instructor while working at Six Flags WaterWorld in Houston, Texas. Chet was one of the original lifeguards hired when Water World opened in 1983. Initially hired as a lifeguard, he was promoted to Head Lifeguard, Supervisor and Training Supervisor in a two-year period. After a few years at this level, Chet was promoted to be the Fire and Safety Supervisor for AstroWorld responsible for developing and promoting the fire protection, environmental and safety programs at Six Flags.
During this time at Waterworld, Chet attended and graduated from Houston Baptist University with a Bachelors of Science degree with majors in Business Management and History. During the summers, Chet worked at Six Flags and at Philmont the National Boy Scout Ranch and Explorer Base in Cimarron, New Mexico. Chet worked one season as a Ranger and a second at the Health Lodge participating in search & rescue operations. About this time, he became certified as and EMT-Intermediate by the State of Texas. Most recently, has was the Operations Manager at Six Flags WaterWorld where he oversaw aquatic safety, operations, retail and maintenance from 1993-2000. With Chet’s broad base of experience and a wealth of knowledge in aquatic safety, he is eager to assist any facility in improving its safety performance and improving guest’s satisfaction.
