NASCO’s 25th annual International Aquatic Safety School will be held in Texas City, Texas on January 4th-7th, 2023. We will be utilizing the City of Texas City Pools at the Matthew T. Doyle Natatorium at 1900 5th Avenue North Texas City, TX for the time spent in the water and the dry sessions will take place at this aquatic facility or across the street from the natatorium at the Charles T. Doyle Convention Center. Sessions will begin Wednesday, January 4th at 10:00 am (IT’s and Faculty will meet at 8am at the pool) at the Texas City Natatorium and continue at the Charles T. Doyle Convention Center located at 2010 5th Avenue North Texas City, TX 77590. Please allow time in your travel arrangements to get into town before the first session begins at the Matthew T. Doyle Natatorium (we will start off in the pool – be ready to swim). Safety School will conclude in the afternoon with an awards luncheon (around 1:00 pm) on Saturday, January 7th.
ARRIVAL & LODGING
Participants may choose to fly directly into one of Houston’s two major airports, Hobby or IAH, and then drive to Texas, City. The Hobby Airport is closer than IAH.
Intercontinental Airport to Texas City, TX (approx 60 miles or about 1 hr 10 min unless rush hour – over 2 hrs): Follow signs south to Beltway 8. Go right or West on Beltway 8 (about 4 m). Turn South or left on IH 45 (right exit). Follow IH 45 through Houston for about 45 miles.

Directions from Hobby Airport to Texas City, TX (approx 20 Miles or about 40 minutes – unless rush hour – over 1 hr.): Begin at William P Hobby. Follow signs for IH 45. Turn right on Airport Blvd and go East for 2.4 miles. Turn right on IH 45 and go Southeast for about 20 miles.

Merge onto FM-1764 E via EXIT 16 toward Texas City. 5.8m. Stay straight to go onto Palmer Hwy. 1.4m. Turn right onto 21st St N. 0.3m. Take the 2nd left onto 5th Ave N. 0.1m.1900 5TH AVE N is on the left.
GROUP DYNAMICS
Participants at the school will be placed into one of five groups depending on their aquatic ability and level of experience.
Group A: Participants who have little aquatic experience or are new to the NASCO Lifeguard Instructor Course.
Group B-1: Participants who are already NASCO Instructors and familiar with NASCO programs.
Group B-2: Participants who have significant experience with NASCO and have shown outstanding instructor ability.
Group C: Participants who are at senior level management positions and have significant experience with NASCO.
Management Track: Participants who are at a senior level management positions who have little or no lifeguard training experience.
Being in the appropriate group greatly influences the participant’s experience at the school. If you are unsure as to which group you belong please contact Brian Cole to discuss which group would be an appropriate fit and allow you to get the most out of your experience at the International Aquatic Safety School.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Those interested in participating in NASCO’s 2023 International Aquatic Safety School should complete the registration form below and submit it as soon as possible, but no later than December 1, 2022. Included in the cost of the school are the fees for the NLI course as well as the course materials. Please print out the Instructor Manuals and Lifeguard Textbooks and bring them with you to the school. New clients, may purchase a copy on-site for $95.00. If you plan to purchase your instructor materials upon arrival at Safety School, please indicate as such on your registration form as we have a limited availability on-site.
